[Peter Graves Dies at 83] New York Times reported, actor Peter Graves, star of the 1967-73 TV series Mission Impossible died of a heart attack Sunday at his home in Pacific Palisades, California. He dies at the age of 83. Peter Graves appeared in the golden age of Hollywood classics such as 1953's Stalag 17 and 1955's Night of the Hunter and a number of genre films.

Aurness Peter Graves was born in Minneapolis, he served in the United States Air Force in 1944-45, studied drama at the University of Minnesota, and then followed his brother, Gunsmoke star James Arness, to Hollywood. (He took the name from the grandfather to avoid confusion with his brother.)

Like his brother, Peter Graves found some roles and the best known on TV is Mission Impossible, he plays as Jim Phelps, the leader of the organization's super spy secrets. He got a Golden Globe in 1971 and an Emmy nomination in 1969. Beginning in 1987, he served as host of A & E's Biography series (which won only one Emmy, in 1997, to Judy Garland: Beyond the Rainbow).
