Gerry Ryan Dead: One of Ireland’s best known broadcasters has died. Gerry Ryan was found dead at his Dublin apartment when a friend tried to contact him, after he failed to show for his morning chat show on RTE.
In a statement RTE said it learned of Gerry Ryan Dead with “profound sadness” and said the thoughts and prayers of all its staff were with Gerry’s family and friends. It also quoted the Ryan family as saying there were in “complete shock” and asking that their privacy be respected at this time.
The 53 year old DJ and father of five from Clontarf had been broadcasting on 2fm and RTE TV for over two decades. The Gerry Ryan Show began in 1988. After a stint in pirate radio, the often controversial and outspoken DJ joined Ireland’s state broadcaster RTE in 1979 – his own show made waves and quickly gained popularity.
